Rachmaninov Vespers
We very much enjoyed the evening of your stunning performance of Rachmaniov`s All-Night Vespers sung in Russian tonight at St Nicholas church in Newbury. If we had closed our eyes we would have imagined we were in the presence of over 100 Russian singers, thank you for a challenging and enjoyable experience. This was our first time at one of your concerts and we were supporting our sister in law Liz Wallace who was singing in the choir.
One suggestion, would it be possible to include a list of all the members of the choir as they are so professional and dedicated and sadly did not get a mention in the excellent programme. We look forward to attending further performances by the Newbury Choir now that we have discovered you.
I had never heard this work before and was overwhelmed by the beauty of the piece; an inspired choice. I was not aware of any awkward moments except for one soprano entry which may have been meant to be stronger – I suspect the piece was not easy and to have noticed only one small flaw (if it was one) suggests that it was very well performed – it certainly sounded good to me. The soloists were excellent. Well done.
