We are a large, non-auditioned choir that has performed a wide and varied repertoire from Mozart to Tavener for over 130 years.  We aspire to a high musical standard and aim to thrill our concert audiences.  Joined by professional musicians such as the renowned chamber orchestra London Concertante and the region's leading orchestra Southern Sinfonia, we perform three concerts a year in the Newbury area.  Our regular venues are St Nicolas Church, Newbury and the beautiful Abbey Church at Douai Abbey, Woolhampton. We hope you enjoy browsing our website and look forward to welcoming you at our rehearsals or at our next concert .

Our 2017 - 2018 season of concerts

The 2017 - 2018 season started with a collaboration with The Newbury & District Cancer Care Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support, performing a varied range of Christmas music from composers including Tavener, Rutter, Lauridsen and Vaughan Williams, including Today the Virgin, Jesus Child, O Magnum Mysterium and Fantasia on Christmas Carols. Lin Wilkinson’s review in the Newbury Weekly News can be viewed by clicking here.

In April 2018 we performed Messa da Requiem by Guiseppe Verdi. This enormous work requires a huge orchestra and double choir, so we joined forces with Billingshurst Choral Society and in a departure the venue was Basingstoke’s The Anvil. This was very exciting as we have been trying to organise this work for a number of years. With the London Uylsses Orchestra, soprano: Elizabeth Donovan, mezzo-soprano: Hannah Pedley, tenor: David Junghoon Kim, bass: Keel Watson and a combined choir of 190 singers, the concert was a spectacular and memorable evening. Our summer season will see us return to Douai Abbey in June 2018 for Visions of Albion, a festival of the finest English choral music. The choir will perform some familiar and much lovedworks by Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Stanford, Parry, Finzi and Tavener. For more information click here.

Our winter season programme will be announced shortly.
